Spring is Coming—Time to Shake Off the Winter & Get Ready!
We are excited to see everyone again and to witness the beautiful wines that we will have the honor of clarifying this year. The anticipation is palpable, and we look forward to celebrating the artistry and craftsmanship that go into every bottle.
How we spent our winter break
🏔️ Julie and David took time at the end of January to chase some fresh powder on the slopes.
🎉 Corey and Steve celebrated birthdays —if you them out in the field, be sure to wish them a belated happy birthday!
🔥 Our four-legged team members, Obi, Finn, and Logan, have been soaking up the warmth by the fire, resting up before the busy season kicks into high gear. Enjoy it while it lasts, pups!
📈 January kept us on our toes, and now we’re shaking off the winter lull, ready to dive into the busy season ahead!
🛠️ All our machines got their winter tune-up, and we're putting the pieces together to build our 5th filter unit!

Welcome to Our New Team Members!
We’re excited to introduce the newest members of the Willamette Crossflow team: David and Steve! They bring valuable experience, a strong work ethic, and a passion for the industry that we know will serve our clients well. If you see them out in the field, be sure to say hello!
Meet David, our Lead Filtration Technician!
We’re thrilled to welcome David to the team! With thirteen harvests under his belt and over a decade of production experience in Oregon, he brings a deep understanding of the craft and a passion for quality that fits right in with our mission. A true Northwest native, David has spent years honing his skills in winemaking and production, and many of you may already know him from his time in the industry.
Beyond his professional expertise, David is an adventurer at heart. When he’s not in the cellar, you’ll likely find him carving fresh tracks in the mountains on his snowboard or trekking through the rugged backcountry on a backpacking trip. His love for the outdoors mirrors his approach to his work—always striving for excellence, embracing challenges, and appreciating the journey.
We’re excited to have him on board and can’t wait to see the impact he’ll make. Be sure to say hello and give him a warm welcome!
Meet Steve!
Steve brings a wealth of winemaking experience to Willamette Crossflow, having worked in wineries, vineyards, and labs across the globe—from the rolling hills of Sonoma to the storied wine regions of Spain and Argentina. His journey through the world of wine has given him a well-rounded perspective, blending hands-on craftsmanship with scientific expertise.
Originally from New Jersey, Steve began his academic path at Rutgers University before diving deeper into his passion for wine at UC Davis, where he earned a master’s degree in viticulture and enology. After years of working in California and abroad, he put down roots in the Willamette Valley, where he continues to bring his expertise and dedication to the region’s winemaking community.
Now living in Newberg with his partner and their fluffy, four-legged sidekick, Steve is an integral part of the team. Be sure to say hello next time you see him!

Before we wrap up, here’s a fun piece of filtration history!
Filtration might not be the most glamorous part of winemaking, but it’s one of the most important. Crossflow filtration has been a game-changer in the industry, and its origins go back more than a century.
In the early 1900s, German scientist Heinrich Bechhold discovered that filtering liquid parallel to a membrane—rather than forcing it straight through—improved efficiency and prevented clogging. This insight led to the development of crossflow filtration, which is now widely used in winemaking, food production, and even medicine.
